OMK Gets Gazprom’s Science and Technology Award

United Metallurgical Company (OMK Joint Stock Company, based in Moscow) has won Gazprom’s 2015 science and technology award.

OMK received the award for perfecting its technology and introducing a new range of large diameter pipes (used for constructing deep offshore gas pipelines with super high capacities). Behind the project were Alexander Parunov, Head of the Foreign Market Sales Department at OMK-Steel (part of OMK), and Pavel Stepanov, Director of the Engineering and Technology Center at Vyksa Steel Works (VSW Joint Stock Company, based in the Nizhny Novgorod region, part of OMK). The work was completed in collaboration with Giprospetsgaz.

“The high acclaim that OMK’s developments received from its strategic partner, Gazprom, acknowledges our input into the development of the industry’s scientific and technological potential. In the beginning of the 2000s, OMK was the first Russian company to start working on import replacements for large diameter pipes used in main pipelines and designed to meet the strictest requirements. For over 10 years, we have been perfecting our capabilities and product quality for main pipelines, investing over 70 billion rubles into the cause. Collaborating with Russian partners, we have built up a production chain ‘from ore to pipe’ using entirely domestic materials,” said OMK President Vladimir Markin. “I congratulate our colleagues and all of our staff on a well deserved award!”
